Hi, my name is Sophie Willis and I’m writing a book to raise money for charity.
It’s called Bath Firsts: Inventions, Innovations & Discoveries. The foreword is written by Sir James Dyson.
I had no idea that there were so many originators and creatives and people of ingenuity who hailed from my home city of Bath.
Did you know that the anglepoise lamp was invented here, plasticine, the first self-winding clock, that the planet Uranus was first discovered in Bath and that the pioneers of motion pictures lived and worked here. Obviously, we know that the world‘s first bagless vacuum cleaner was invented here, by Sir James Dyson, but the first King of England was crowned in the Abbey, the first postage stamp was sent from Bath, the world‘s first science-fiction was novel was written here and even the forerunner to the motorcar was invented in our city.
I have researched over fifty Bath residents throughout history whose ground-breaking inventions, innovations and discoveries have changed the world.
I’m writing this book to help children in Kenya, through a charity called Moving Mountains, and I’m going to visit as part of a school trip, for three weeks this summer.
Please pre-purchase my book (delivery this summer), with all proceeds going to help me travel there, to work with Moving Mountains and provide them whatever I can manage to raise.
I’m not asking for a donation, but simply requesting that you purchase a first edition of Bath Firsts: Inventions, Innovations & Discoveries, a book that I believe should have already been written about our wonderful city and its amazing pioneers.
There are various purchase options, such as a digital edition, or a physical copy, or both, or even a signed version, and I thank you very much for your support.
