Brixton Village and Market Row were put up for sale through an off-market process in 2025. When the BTCA and The Advocacy Academy learned of the £50 million sale in June 2026, the traders who had built the market over decades responded in just 11 days. In June, the campaign put forward a £50m community-led bid. A period of exclusivity has now been agreed on the proposed sale.

That bid has now been named the preferred buyer. After submitting a commercially attractive and credible bid, the Buy Back Brixton campaign has come through the bidding process as the preferred buyer of Brixton Village and Market Row, and the current owners have entered into an agreement with the Brixton Traders & Community Association and The Advocacy Academy on the proposed sale.

If this purchase is completed, it would bring the largest purchase ever into community ownership in the UK.

What your money does now. We have 8 weeks to complete due diligence and exchange contracts, then up to a further 4 months to raise the remaining funds and complete the legal and governance work required to complete the purchase. Money raised here goes towards the purchase itself and the professional costs of completing it.

Brixton Village and Market Row are not a food hall or a property asset. They are the heart of Brixton's culture, economy and community life, shaped by generations of traders, families, migrants, young people and independent businesses. Community ownership means the people who live, work and trade here shape its future, and that the wealth this market creates stays in Brixton.

We are close. Please help us finish it.

We are raising emergency funds to help the community submit a serious counter-bid, protect heritage traders, and build a path towards long-term community ownership.

Brixton Market is more than a food hall or property asset. It is the heart of Brixton’s culture, economy and community life. It has been shaped by generations of traders, families, migrants, young people and independent businesses.

If the market is sold to investors focused on profit, we risk rent hikes, evictions and the permanent loss of the people and culture that make Brixton Market what it is.

Donate today to help Buy Back Brixton and keep the market in community hands. Every gift counts.
