Girty's Woods is 155 acres located in Reserve Township, adjacent to Millvale and Shaler. Girty's Woods is important for soaking up rainwater which helps to protect Millvale from flooding and landslides. The property is up for sale and the Allegheny Land Trust, a nonprofit organization in the Pittsburgh area which helps protect local land, is raising money to purchase the property at the end of March, to permanently protect it from development and maintain it as a community greenspace full of trails for everyone to enjoy!
Shaler Area High School Sustainability students have been working hard growing a variety of native trees to plant in Girty's Woods once the property is purchased. These will replace trees that were cut down as part of a logging lease recently. Currently, we are growing Burr Oak, White Oak, and Kentucky Coffee trees and soon we will be planting Black Birch! Please support the efforts of the students and help us protect Girty's Woods! For a minimum donation of $15, a tree will be planted on your behalf in Girty's Woods.
If you would like to have your tree donation serve as a gift for someone, or as a memorial, we can create and send you a custom certificate! A short time after your donation, we will send you a private message through GoFundMe with instructions about how to receive your certificate! If you would like to choose which type of tree to be planted, you can also let us know!
Thank you for your support!
