Remove a Confederate Statue & Honor Real History

The town of Parksley, VA is attempting to sell their confederate statue and the land it stands upon to the Sons of the Confederate Veterans for $1. They are doing this to ensure the statue never comes down. The town is taking this step while our nation confronts its racist history and has began in earnest to remove these monuments to oppression. Our community has a strong and storied black community that literally built many of the estates and properties that form our history reaching back to the 1600s. This statue should come down now and it most certainly should not be protected forever. Future generations should not be forced to have a racist relic in their public spaces but this would prevent them from having a voice.

The funds we raise will go to make a counter offer to the town for purchase of the land and statue. Should the town agree the site would be used to erect the very first monument to Black persons on Virginia's Eastern Shore, one of the oldest communities in the United States. 

Should the town reject the offer, funds will go to the Thurgood Marshall College Fund and Black Lives Matter. If you have a preference on the charity you may indicate that with your donation. While the statues come down in our cities, we cannot leave rural America, and the many persons of color who live there, behind. Justice means bringing along all regions of our country. Racist relics need to be addressed in the smallest of our towns, as much as our Capitals. We hope you will join us and thank you in advance.
