Buxton NC Sidewalk Extension Fundraiser

Tax deductible
Greetings, from 'the capital of Hatteras'--Buxton, NC in the good ol' USA!

I'm Leslie; one of about 1500 year round residents in this beautiful, quite bustling bitty li'l beach town.

Our town's plight...can you imagine any already established capital city, without sidewalks?

OK, ok...it's my own fun nickname for Buxton; I know we aren't and can never be a 'capital'! :)

However, stats show we're running about 2.5M annual visitors to Buxton. Our major draws are our lovely uncrowded beaches and multi-use waters, and then the famous Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. While here, tourists and locals alike, walking around our downtown (and throughout the entire island). Walking right at the edge of our extremely busy just one (2-lane) main road in-and-out, known as Highway 12. Busy not only with personal vehicles, but the largest of commerical trucks of all types also!

Thanks to the hard long work of some incredible people and entities before me, there are now sidewalks in all the villages except two...and Buxton, is one of them. I'm thankful for those who stepped forward the past year to establish a civic association for our town, and my husband Jeff and I became members. And this year, along with the other remaining town striving to obtain an island-connecting sidewalk in their area (Frisco, NC) and other needed entities--we here in Buxton are ramping up efforts to do the same.

You, as we have, will likely shake your heads as you perhaps learn this: we're told it's "$1M a mile" in 2025, to put in a sidewalk here. The ultimate goal, is to lay 7 miles; this will take the sidewalk from downtown to our local high school.

Some local contracting and other types of business owners...even residents...when hearing this, have burst out saying "I can do it for waaaay less than that!" But when actually looking into allllllll the associated expenses for surveying, permits, materials, labor etc...they realize the hard truth of just how expensive it is to accomplish this today.

I thought to myself: Yup, that's a LOT of money. I'm just one person...

"The people perish, without vision". In my own personal life a few years ago, I put this to the test---and the One Who had this wisdom recorded, blew my mind AND the mind of the friend who was witness to it. I can't and won't hinder what He might do!

So...what if each one of those 2.5M who have visited our town, were to kindly give just $1.00 to this effort? Half of those people? Then, those who love our island and area, and vacation here every year? All the reasons, people might get behind this with me/us, to offset the cost. My...even miraculously get to that crazy $1M number!?

So...this is the 'vision' I've been given to put out there, and I thank you for reading. Again, on behalf of the Buxton Civic Association, I pray you'll personally pray or ponder this...and hopefully be moved to donate what you can?! As the BCA is a non-profit, your donation is TAX DEDUCTIBLE!

And if you can't afford to donate---please 'donate' your time in sharing this fundraising effort to anyone or any entity you can that might increase the attention and/or donations.

THANK YOU, AND GOD BLESS YOU!
