Buvuma Forest Children’s Education Centre

Our project aims to develop the Galigatya Education Centre.

The Galigatya Education Centre is one very important component of an important environmental and educational enhancement project being implemented on the largest island in Lake Victoria.

Our vision is to offer the local children of the Parish of Kirongo the opportunity to become literate and numerate whilst of primary school age, to acquire the basic skills and enthusiasm to seek knowledge that they can carry on into secondary and subsequent education, and to enhance their individual lives and that of the wider community.

At the heart of our philosophy is that effective development must be multifaceted. This is represented by our mission to ensure the children not only receive an education but also have access to effective healthcare such as vaccinations.

The Buvuma Forest Project has been established for the purposes of acting in the overall interests of the Community with respect to:

1. Offering to the local children a safe, healthy and cheerful opportunity to obtain a sound educational grounding in a non-sectarian and enlightened environment.

2. Securing funding to build and to run a primary school to serve the children principally from within the community.

3. Enhance the prospects of its children regardless of race, gender and religion.

The Education Centre is the cornerstone of the battle against ignorance and the inexcusable tolerance of moral turpitude. The Galigatya Education Centre has, thanks to the generosity of the Swiss registered not-for-profit charity 'Fishermen's Children', now built the first classroom block which is already accepting children.

Fishemen's Children generously propose to build additional buildings as required to accommodate the full range of primary grade pupils, and the staff, with all the ancillaries of a registered primary school.

Our first goal of £5,000 will go towards providing daily nutritious meals for the children, employing a new teacher in order to increase the number of children that can attend, and developing community infrastructure.
