We are the World Bicycle Forum 12 AC and, together with dozens of organizations — including Chicanxs Sin Fronteras, the Cicloactivist Collectives of Tijuana, San Diego and Ensenada, the — and hundreds of volunteers, we are embarking on an extraordinary mission.

Every year, at the end of the Burning Man festival in the Nevada desert, thousands of bicycles are left abandoned. For the second consecutive year, FMB12 has set out to rescue 500 bicycles, transport them to Mexico and give them a second life full of purpose.

The bicycle is not just a means of transportation. It represents freedom, autonomy, dignity, inclusion and an opportunity to transform the lives of thousands of people. With your help, these bicycles will reach different social projects in Mexico.

From Burning Man to Tijuana: 500 bicycles to empower migrants

Tijuana is known as being a "bottleneck" or "waiting" city, and recent US migration restrictions have transformed the dynamics of the border.

Our central objective is to deliver bicycles to deported and repatriated migrant communities in Tijuana, Baja California, from throughout Latin America. The situation of these people is very difficult: they have no work and no money. Many are in a situation of great vulnerability, without economic resources, support networks or mobility options.

Tijuana is known as the corner of Latin America. There, thousands of people try to rebuild their lives while facing enormous economic, social and emotional challenges. Since the beginning of 2025, Mexico has received more than 200,000 repatriated people, while shelters and care centers in Tijuana continue to work at the limit of their capacities.

Donating a bicycle to a migrant person generates an immediate impact. A bicycle:

Mobility for inclusion

We will also promote the delivery of adapted bicycles for people with disabilities in different states of Mexico. This initiative has the support of comedian and activist Alexis "Ojitos de Huevo", who has joined this effort to promote inclusion and the right to mobility.

How much does it cost to change a life?

The total project cost is $10,285 USD ($180,000 MXN). This budget covers the rescue of the bicycles, transportation from Nevada, basic repairs and distribution to different points in Mexico.

This means that with just $20 USD ($350 MXN) per bicycle, we can rescue a bicycle and turn it into a new opportunity for someone else. The commercial value of a similar bicycle can be up to ten times greater.

This effort is possible thanks to the experience of the World Bicycle Forum 12 A.C., an organization with more than twenty-six years of work in favor of sustainable mobility, social justice and the construction of stronger, more supportive communities.

On September 17th we will call for a historic day of volunteering to accompany the crossing of the 500 bicycles through the San Ysidro checkpoint, on the border between Mexico and the United States.

Cada año, al finalizar el festival Burning Man en el desierto de Nevada, miles de bicicletas quedan abandonadas. Por segundo año consecutivo, el FMB12 se ha propuesto rescatar 500 bicicletas, trasladarlas a México y darles una segunda vida llena de propósito.

¿Por qué lo hacemos?

Porque la bicicleta no es solamente un medio de transporte. Representa libertad, autonomía, dignidad, inclusión y una oportunidad para transformar la vida de miles de personas. Con tu ayuda, estas bicicletas llegarán a distintos proyectos sociales en México.

De Burning Man a Tijuana: 500 bicicletas para empoderar a personas migrantes

Tijuana ha tomado una dimensión particular debido a su condición de "ciudad tapón" o de espera. Las restricciones migratorias de Estados Unidos han transformado la dinámica de la frontera.

Nuestro principal objetivo es entregar bicicletas a personas migrantes deportadas y repatriadas en Tijuana, Baja California, procedentes de distintos países de América Latina. La situación de estas personas es muy difícil: no tienen trabajo ni dinero. Muchas se encuentran en una situación de gran vulnerabilidad, sin recursos económicos, redes de apoyo o posibilidades de movilidad.

Tijuana es conocida como la esquina de Latinoamérica. Allí, miles de personas intentan reconstruir sus vidas mientras enfrentan enormes desafíos económicos, sociales y emocionales. Desde el inicio de 2025, México ha recibido a más de 200,000 personas repatriadas, mientras que los albergues y centros de atención de Tijuana continúan trabajando al límite de sus capacidades.

También impulsaremos la entrega de bicicletas adaptadas para personas con discapacidad en diferentes estados de México. Esta iniciativa cuenta con el respaldo del comediante y activista Alexis "Ojitos de Huevo", quien se ha sumado a este esfuerzo para promover la inclusión y el derecho a la movilidad.

Movilidad para las montañas del sur de México

Las bicicletas también llegarán a comunidades de Chiapas, Oaxaca y Guerrero, donde miles de familias enfrentan enormes dificultades para trasladarse a la escuela, al trabajo o a los servicios de salud.

¿Cuánto cuesta cambiar una vida?

El costo total del proyecto es de $10,400 USD ($208,400 MXN). Este presupuesto cubre el rescate de las bicicletas, el transporte desde Nevada, las reparaciones básicas y la distribución en distintos puntos de México.

Esto significa que, con apenas $20 USD ($360 MXN) por bicicleta, podemos rescatar una bicicleta y convertirla en una nueva oportunidad para alguien más. El valor comercial de una bicicleta similar puede ser hasta diez veces mayor.

Este esfuerzo es posible gracias a la experiencia del Foro Mundial de la Bicicleta 12 A.C., una organización con más de veintiséis años de trabajo en favor de la movilidad sostenible, la justicia social y la construcción de comunidades más fuertes y solidarias.

El próximo 17 de septiembre convocaremos una jornada histórica de voluntariado para acompañar el cruce de las 500 bicicletas a través de la garita de San Ysidro, en la frontera entre México y Estados Unidos.
