A Daughter's Challenge:

Elevating joy through movement, I'm embarking on a significant personal challenge—a demanding Glagsow Half Marathon hilly run—to raise funds for enhancing the activity programmes at my father's residential care facility, Burlington Hall. These will help develop more robust and fun activites for all of the residents.

I've witnessed first hand the profound impact these engagements have had on his well-being, observing moments of vibrant participation alongside quieter times of contented absorption. Both states, I firmly believe, contribute immeasurably to quality of life for my father and the other residents at Burlington Hall.

Think laughter, smiles, and connection! From dancing to active listening these tailored moments spark joy, keep minds active, and make every day brighter. It's about bringing back the fun and purpose, one engaging activity at a time!.

I've also learned that sometimes, as individuals with dementia try to express themselves, their words and actions can become confusing. This underscores the even greater need for tailored activities that offer alternative avenues for connection and expression.

I will be pushing my physical limits this October but so happy to be elevating awareness for dementia and the vulnerabilities associated with age. I used to run with my dad and we would race at the end but the motto will be a 'Slow and steady' for this run and will bring me a lot of joy to think of all at Burlington Hall through the 13.1 miles.
