Hi, I'm Ben - Kris's brother. I'm running this fundraiser for him because right now he can't do it himself.

On 27 July , Kris was waiting at a bus stop in West Burleigh on the Gold Coast after finishing work for the day, when a bus making its turn hit the shelter. The old council bus stop collapsed on top of him.

Paramedics did an incredible job at the scene and rushed him to Gold Coast University Hospital with crush injuries. He went straight into an 8-hour surgery, then spent four days in a coma.

He's awake and back on his feet now, but the road back is long: four broken ribs, a fractured scapula, head injuries, and bruising over most of his body.

The biggest battle is his arms, his right arm was crushed and is being rebuilt by surgeons, and his left is in plaster with suspected fractures in multiple places.

With very limited use of both arms, even the simplest everyday tasks are a struggle, and it will be months if not a year before he can work again.

Where the money goes

We want to be upfront: there are workers' compensation and other processes underway relating to the incident, but these things move slowly and could take a long time to resolve.

In the meantime, life doesn't wait. Every dollar donated goes directly to Kris for:

Out-of-pocket medical and surgical costs

Rehabilitation and physio for both arms

Help with daily living while he can't use his arms

Rent, bills and everyday living costs while he has no income
