Bungoma Outreach Project

Hi my name is Lisa Cliffe, I am a mother of two beautiful girls and one of a delegation of around 30 people (primarily from Wexford) travelling to Bungoma, Kenya in October 2025 as part of an outreach programme there.

Our delegation will be working on the ground with the NGO Core Health and Wealth International undertaking various projects to help improve the living conditions of small children and hopefully make their lives a little easier.

One of the many projects we will be working on is helping to make furniture for schools (often schools are overcrowded, unsafe, with no desks, chairs or proper sanitation.)

Our goal is to provide not only the manpower but also the equipment and tools needed to ensure the success of the project but more importantly to ensure that the work is capable of being continued long after we leave.

Another project will be with a home for teenage mothers, many of whom have experienced sexual violence and who no longer have a safe place to call home.

One story in particular which really resonated with me was that of a ten year old girl who was raped by her stepfather, became pregnant and was thrown out of her home.

Sadly such violence against girls is not uncommon. Every girl should have somewhere they feel safe and protected.

The teenage mothers home is not only a sanctuary for these girls but also provides an opportunity for them to return to education as well as giving them the support and care they need and so richly deserve.

The home is in need of repair and they badly needs more beds (often beds /cots are shared by multiple babies) and storage space. Again our role will be not only to help with repairs, making furniture etc but will also involve funding the equipment and tools which hopefully will ensure that the project will be able to continue long after we leave.

Each of our delegates are hoping to raise at least €5,000 to support these and other meaningful community projects in the area.

I am under no illusion these projects won’t change the world but real change starts with small steps, care and a desire to help. We all have the ability to make a difference we just need to choose to.
