A childhood is what shapes a person. You are easily socialized during this time and learn skills necessary to thrive, while conforming to norms of society around you. This happens through interactions with people, family, friends, and the world. Some children don’t have access to this exposure due to things they cannot control. My name is Amelie, and I’ve decided to focus on a social issue in the world by working with children in the hospital. I will put together “Bundle of Joy” baskets for hospitalized children at CHEO here in Ottawa. While children are in the hospital, many feel quite isolated whether they’re aware of this or not, and I want to create a positive and inspiring memory of their stay, and provide them with the ability to make the best of it. In these baskets, I will include activities to keep busy, and embrace children's creativity and curiosity. The hospital can be a very overwhelming and stressful environment for children, and their guardians. Providing activities like this is a great way to spread joy and kindness to a community that needs it. Baskets will cost around 50 dollars each and we will make as many as we can. All money will be put towards the baskets.
