Tso Pema, the sacred lake in Rewalsar, India is known as the place where Guru Rinpoche performed the miracle of transforming the funeral pyre into a lake, after the King of Zahor attempted to burn him alive and casted Princess Mandarava into a pit of thorns because they practiced together in the caves.
Tso Pema remains a sacred place for Buddhist practitioners, including our group of nuns from Spiti Valley who are part of the sponsorship program. Every winter they travel to Tso Pema to escape the bitter cold and deep snow in Spiti, but mostly to benefit all sentient beings by practicing and praying with the support of the spiritual power around the lake.
Currently, the nuns live packed together in small rooms in a rented place half an hour drive from the lake.
This year the opportunity arose to buy a small piece of land close to Rewalsar, and there are plans to build a nunnery on this land.
Besides the benefit of doing practice in a blessed environment, the nuns rent will be lower in their own nunnery. As the nuns depend on income generated from sponsorship programs and by performing pujas for people who ask them to do so, a place of their own gives them more opportunity for further study, good food and healthcare.
If you would like to help make this nunnery come true, you are most welcome to make a donation.
Your generosity will be strongly appreciated.
