Building Pride: John's Eagle Project

Hi! This fundraiser is to support John Mariano’s Eagle Scout Project. John is a Life Scout with Troop 25 based out of St. Patrick’s Church in Staten Island. John started his Scouting journey at the age of 7 as a Tiger Scout. Now almost 17, he is following in his father’s footsteps to obtain the rank of Eagle Scout.

In his own words, John will explain how his Eagle Project will benefit the community:

“For my Eagle Scout service project, I propose to build multiple wooden structures designed to hold and display our American flags. This project will benefit the Post Beauvais – Hudson #126 American Legion group of Staten Island.

These flag-holding structures will serve a vital purpose in honoring veterans and fostering community pride, allowing flags to be securely displayed during various events and ceremonies. This project was inspired by the New York City Fire Department ceremonial team, and I have received full support from Troop 25 committee member Jamie Gonzales and Post Beauvais – Hudson #126.

The completed structures will be portable, ensuring they can be easily transported to different community functions, military ceremonies, and patriotic events. In addition to honoring veterans, this project will help create a visually respectful and unified display of our American flags, reinforcing a sense of national pride and respect.

• Supplies & Tools Needed:

• Several sheets of plywood

• Wood beams for structural support

• Wood screws, nails, and wood glue

• Sandpaper for smooth surfaces

• Protective stain or paint to ensure durability

• Saw, drill, and clamps for precise assembly

• 10 standard size flags/poles

This project aligns with the Eagle Scout values of service, leadership, and community betterment, offering a respectful contribution to Staten Island’s veteran community. My troop and I will work closely with local veterans, volunteers, and community leaders to ensure successful construction and implementation.”

* If the money raised goes over the amount needed, the proceeds will be donated to the American Legion group.
