Nashid Al-Hadi was from Philadelphia PA. He attended Millersville University majoring in Social Work and during his time there sat on the Board of the Black Student Union. Nashid was always fond of helping others and
advocating for making large scale changes in his community. He enjoyed reading, studying history, traveling and playing basketball. Nashid was the founder and president of The B.L.A.C.K. (Building Leaders And Confident Kids) PROGRAM.
In 2017 he started the BLACK program to promote the safety and wellbeing of the children in his community. The program is committed to transforming the lives of the urban youth within the Greater Philadelphia Area through partnerships that provide students with the holistic supports needed to understand and navigate the socio cultural complexities of society while providing them with the tools to thrive academically socially and personally. Nashid truly believed this was a sure way to stop to school to prison pipeline
On August 25 2018 the BLACK program hosted its first annual Ball for Backpacks basketball tournament. We were able to bring children and their families together for a day of fun and enjoyment through healthy play and physical activity. We stepped away from the video games and technology for a few hours and engaged in a little old school fun. We also gave away back packs and school supplies for the upcoming school year during this event.
Nashid Al-Hadi passed away unexpectedly in an automobile accident in May 2020. His parents and siblings created the BLACK foundation in honor of Nashid as we hope to continue the work he started and was so passionate about.
Your donation will go towards scholarships for children to offer them exposure to art, music, dance, sports, academic support and mentorship.
