Goal: Raising as much as possible to build an orphanage in Freetown, Sierra Leone, providing safety, shelter, and education for over 100 vulnerable children.
Sierra Leone, a nation of about 8.7 million people, has faced decades of hardship due to war, disease, and natural disasters. The 11-year civil war (1991–2002) devastated the country, forcibly recruiting 10,000 children as soldiers, killing over 50,000 people, and displacing more than 2 million. This dark period was followed by the 2014 Ebola outbreak, which claimed nearly 4,000 lives and orphaned countless children, and the tragic 2017 mudslide that killed over 1,000 people and left thousands homeless.
Today, children in Sierra Leone still face unimaginable challenges. Many are orphaned and left to survive on the streets, where they are exposed to trafficking, exploitation, and abuse. Poverty forces some families to abandon their children, while others lose parents to illness. Sierra Leone currently ranks 181 out of 191 on the Human Development Index, with 57% of its population living below the poverty line.
Our mission is to change the lives of these vulnerable children. With a secured 992-square-meter plot of land in Freetown, we aim to build an orphanage that will provide a safe haven, education, and care for over 100 children.
As a native of Sierra Leone, I have personally witnessed the struggles of my people. During the civil war, I sought refuge in Guinea Conakry before resettling in Australia. Despite starting a new life, my heart remains deeply connected to my homeland.
In 2014 and again in 2022/23, I returned to Sierra Leone to engage in charitable efforts, including distributing food to families in need and supporting the construction and operation of schools. With your support, we can take these efforts further by creating an orphanage that ensures safety, stability, and a brighter future for Sierra Leone’s children, insha’Allah (God willing).
What the Orphanage Will Provide
1. Safety and Shelter: A secure home for over 100 children, protecting them from homelessness and exploitation.
2. Education: Empowering children with knowledge and opportunities for a better future.
3. Nourishment and Care: A nurturing environment for physical, emotional, and spiritual growth.
Allah says:
• “The example of those who spend their wealth in the cause of Allah is that of a grain that sprouts into seven ears, each bearing one hundred grains. And Allah multiplies ˹the reward even more˺ to whoever He wills. For Allah is All-Bountiful, All-Knowing.” (Surah Al-Baqarah. 2:261)
• “And they [the righteous] give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive…” (Al-Insan: 76:8)
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
• “I and the one who cares for an orphan will be together in Paradise like this,” and he held up his forefinger and middle finger close together. (Sahih al-Bukhari, 6005)
• “The best house among the Muslims is the house in which orphans are treated well.” (Sunan Ibn Majah, 3679)

We will work on the project in phases, depending on the funds raised:
1. Phase 1: Fencing and Initial Material Procurement (Months 1–3)
o Securing the land with fencing.
o Procuring essential building materials (concrete, bricks, gravel).
2. Phase 3: Foundation and Infrastructure (Months 3–6)
o Laying the foundation and building the framework and roofing.
3. Phase 4: Interior and Facilities (Months 6–10)
o Installing plumbing, electricity, and ventilation.
o Constructing dormitories, classrooms, bathrooms, and a kitchen.
4. Phase 5: Finishing Touches and Furnishing (Months 10–12)
o Painting interiors and furnishing classrooms with desks and supplies.
o Equipping dormitories with beds, blankets, and other essential amenities.
