Building homes in Malawi - Nov. 2019
Donation protected
Hello family and friends,
Many of you know already that last fall I participated in a Global Habitat for Humanity build in Malawi. No surprise, it was a life-changing experience for me. The goal was to build two homes in a village about an hour south of Lilongwe. Everyone there REALLY needs a new home, but the village as a whole decides which families will benefit from our help.
I didn't really know what to expect, and what I saw was shocking. Anywhere from 4 to 8 people (and, often, goats and chickens) living together in a 10' x 12' room with no windows, under a thatched roof that offers little protection from the elements. Children often sleep outside for lack of space. Below you can see our team with one of the families we helped in front of their old home - and then the new home that we built while we were there.

It was a short trip - just 10 days - but our small team built two of these homes and met some of the nicest, kindest and most generous human beings you could possibly imagine.
Before I had even returned home last year, I had already decided I wanted to go back again. I fell in love with the people of Malawi, and can't wait to do more work to help them and to improve their health and living conditions. Seeing how people in this part of the world live made me appreciate how incredibly fortunate we are.
I will be going on my second trip from November 1 - 10 of this year. My airfare, and my donation to Habitat for Humanity to participate this trip, total about $3500. I am hoping to recoup about half of this - your help will offset my costs, and also allow me to bring the villagers some much-needed supplies (the distribution of which are overseen by Habitat for Humanity).
Thank you in advance for whatever you can give.
Love,
Tanya
