The CIT Community of Care is a newly formed committee at the University of Michigan-Flint’s College of Innovation & Technology. Our mission is to foster a culture of support and connection among faculty and staff by recognizing life’s milestones and offering help during times of difficulty. We believe that a strong sense of community makes our college a better place to work and learn, and we’re committed to making sure no one faces life’s challenges alone.

Our team steps in to celebrate birthdays and work anniversaries, and we also provide support when a colleague experiences an extended illness, a significant life challenge, a new addition to their family, or a loss. For example, we recently organized a meal trail for a faculty member welcoming a new baby. The needs of our coworkers vary, so the ways we help—whether through meals, cards, gifts, or other gestures—are tailored to each situation. Faculty and staff can opt in to be recognized, and we respond to requests for support as they arise.

As a new group, we’re seeking to establish a fund that will allow us to respond quickly and compassionately whenever someone in our college community needs a helping hand. Your support will help us build a caring environment where everyone feels valued and supported, no matter what life brings.
