Building Brighter Futures for Boston Students and Families

Hello,

I’m Mr. Dillon, a 5th-grade science teacher with Boston Public Schools.

I’m starting this GoFundMe because I care deeply about the students in my school and their families. This campaign has two goals: first, to support a family I began mentoring last year, and second, to assist the broader school community I currently serve.

This time of year can be particularly challenging for families who struggle to secure the essentials needed to stay safe and healthy. Funds raised through this GoFundMe will help the school provide necessary supplies and daily essentials for approximately 70+ families experiencing homelessness.

One family I’d like to highlight is the Cheves family. Last year, I worked closely with one of their children, a student who initially disliked school and struggled greatly. As I got to know him, I discovered the challenges he faces at home. His mother works night shifts, leaving him and his high-school-aged brother to care for their 2-year-old sibling throughout the night and afternoon before attending school the next day. Often, there is little to no food at home, and this year, I learned they were unable to celebrate Christmas due to financial constraints.

As someone who grew up cherishing the joy of Christmas, I want to do everything I can to help these families keep moving forward. With your generosity, we can provide much-needed relief and support to the Cheves family and many others in our community.
