Building Bridges: Break the cycle of recidivism

Hello, friends and supporters! My name is Eddie Nuno, and I am a former incarcerated individual who spent 15 years in the California prison system. Having experienced firsthand the challenges of reintegration, I am determined to make a difference in the lives of other men who have gone through similar situations. California, especially the Central Valley, has a high rate of incarceration, and the lack of adequate housing assistance for parolees is a significant barrier to their successful reentry into society.
The Problem:
Upon returning home, even with family support, I encountered barrier after barrier. It became apparent that many men who have served their time face the same obstacles. Unfortunately, not everyone has the privilege of substantial family support. After conducting extensive research, I discovered that the statistics are alarmingly high - 90% of men end up homeless, relapsing, or back in prison due to the lack of housing assistance needed to navigate the high financial demands of society.
Our Solution:
In collaboration with my wife, we have taken the initiative to help and give back to our community. We offered our own house to a housing state program that provides a room for the first three months after release, allowing parolees to seek employment and save money. However, even with full time employment after this initial period, they are discharged without housing, as they often do not qualify due to low credit and work history. This is where our vision for long-term, supportive housing comes into play.
Our Goal:
We are seeking to raise $3 million to purchase an apartment building that we can renovate and transform into a safe and welcoming space for formerly incarcerated individuals. This housing facility will be designed to accommodate these men, providing them with an opportunity to rebuild their lives. Unlike traditional housing programs, we will not check credit or work history. Instead, we will focus on their commitment to maintaining full-time employment. As long as they can show a stable job, they will have the opportunity to rent a room at an affordable rate giving them the opportunity to work on their finances and credit so they can be independently free.
Empowering Change:
But our endeavor doesn't stop at providing housing. We firmly believe that financial education is a crucial component of breaking the cycle of recidivism. Therefore, we will also offer financial classes, including money management, budgeting, savings, and credit repair. By equipping these individuals with the necessary skills, we aim to give them the time and resources needed to make a lasting change in their lives.
Join Us in Making a Difference:
Your generous support will enable us to secure a future for these men, giving them the chance to rebuild their lives and contribute positively to society. By investing in this project, you are not only providing shelter but also offering hope and a pathway to a better future.
Together, we can break down the barriers that prevent successful reintegration and create a community that supports and empowers individuals who are determined to turn their lives around. Join us in our mission to provide second chances, restore dignity, and create a brighter future for all.
Thank you for your support!
