Building Black Birth Workers

My name is Ashanti! I am a black birth worker! I have been called to help raise awareness about the racial issues that black birth workers face. Specifically in regards to training programs.  As I work to earn my volunteer breastfeeding counselor certification; I have experienced a series of microagressions, that have led me to share my story. This is a huge deal for me. I don't like conflict and confrontation; but I NEED to do this. For myself, for black mothers, black babies, and for other black birth workers.  I am using my platform to not just blast this particular organization; but to use it for the greater good.  I am specifically raising money to help put myself through a new breastfeeding training program in the near future. I am raising money to be able to support black birthers at reduced costs. To open a space to serve my community. I am raising money to support black birth workers. Most birth related training programs are not run by people of color! This means that most are not fully prepared to support the specific needs to black birth workers; in teaching them how to support black birthers! Black birthers are dying at significantly greater rates than our white counterparts. It's going to take a lot of work to change this; but it starts with advocacy and support. I currently have a training program for placenta encapsulation. I offer special scholarships for black birth workers. I charge way less than what I know my course is worth; simply because I feel that it's necessary.  I am going to slowly be uploading some of my communications with this organization; to share word for word how they chose to correspond with me. Please read all of the updates! One might say that my updates do not blatantly display or prove prejudice or racism; but I can almost bet anyone saying this has never experienced different levels of racism. This is one! At this time, I have invested about $100 and will not be looking to them for a refund. However, I will not be finishing my studies with them; despite making it to the final module after over 1yr of studying.  I am also uploading some photos of past scholarships that I have run for birth workers of color in the past.  I have not run this campaign from my non profit, but I do also run a 501 c 3 organization.
