Building a municipal well for my village in Uganda
Donation protected
I was resettled in the US in 2008 and have since become a citizen and drive a school bus for pre-K children in Lansing, Michigan. However, I still want to give back to my home village of Rhino Camp, Uganda, since the people still suffer various ailments there - in particular, water-borne illnesses.
Unfortunately, the one single hand-crank well about a mile from the village has busted over many years, so people are drinking from swamps and other unclean sources. We've been asking NGOs and the Ugandan government to come help us build a modern, municipal well in the center of the village instead, but everyone (including the government) has pulled out during the pandemic.
I don't blame them, since we don't need any additional pathogens in the village, but the people have been drinking dirty water for over a year since the hand-crank well broke. People have gotten sick and died.
At this point, we've instead decided to take the municipal borehole and well into our own hands, but getting the professional equipment into the backroads to the village and having the professional installation is quite expensive! We're getting quoted at around $8,500, which I unfortunately cannot afford on my salary alone - and my fellow villagers wouldn't afford in their lifetimes.
It is with this in mind that I'm humbly asking that anyone might open their heart to donate to this municipal well project, which will a long-term source of clean water to the heart of my village. Thank you so much, for whatever you can give!
