I am excited to share that I have the opportunity to participate in a collaborative design-build workshop with CAUKIN Studio and Friends of Nature, People and Forests (FNPF) in Bali. This project is more than just a construction effort—it's about creating a community space that will serve as a central hub within an existing community-led tourism centre. The FNPF Community Yoga Café will be built as a communal building, housing several different functions to serve both local people and visitors. The main spaces will include an entrance lobby and café area on the ground floor, and an open-plan yoga and flexible meeting/workshop area on the first floor, making the most of the beautiful panoramic views. The design draws inspiration from traditional Balinese architecture, blending local craftsmanship with contemporary ideas to create a refined but community-rooted structure aligned with FNPF’s ethos.
My motivation for joining this outreach program comes from a desire to use my resources and determination to ensure that projects like this have a larger positive impact and bring greater benefit to the local community than just recreation. Many architecture ventures are not properly funded for those who need them most, and I want to help change that. The funds I am raising will cover my travel expenses and the sourcing and cost of materials needed for the construction. This support will help bring the vision of a vibrant, inclusive community space to life, benefiting both residents and visitors for years to come.
Doing these kinds of projects is small in voice and large in heart. There are many efforts like this, and most are overlooked at first glance. Some are even backed and funded by larger and verified NPOs. However, this project offers something unique: the chance to show people how the other half of the world lives and the cultural differences they offer. That kind of exposure is hard to find on a vacation or simple trip as a tourist compared to living like a local. By supporting this project, you can help leave not just memories and stories, but a physical manifestation of our collective efforts. I am ready to go out of my comfort zone so that others can have a semblance of what we may take for granted back home. Your support means the world to me and to the community we will serve together.
