After traveling extensively across his native Ghana, Benjamin Essien observed that development was flourishing in the capital, but communities just ten minutes away continued to struggle with limited access to education, potable water, healthcare, and economic opportunities. Isolated assistance was not sustainable or scalable, so in 2018, Benjamin founded Paradigm Shift and hosted the first conference aimed at creating lasting change in vulnerable communities by investing directly in people. Today, the annual conference welcomes about 350 attendees (ages 17–45) and equips them with practical tools to:
- Identify a trade, vocation, or program of study to pursue.
- Develop savings and investment habits for long-term financial stability.
- Build a positive mindset toward nation-building and community service.
- Access locally made Ghanaian products and entrepreneurs.
How Donations Help:
Donations ensure that the conference remains free and accessible, and will cover the conference’s five highest costs:
- Travel expenses
- Venue rental
- Seed money for community impact and entrepreneurship
- Food for all attendees
- Speaker honorariums
This Year's Speakers:
1. Nurturing Creativity - Helping attendees unlock their creative talents and potential—without fear—and apply them meaningfully to their lives and livelihoods.
2. A Citizen’s Call to Serve - Challenging individuals to recognize their role in serving their communities and contributing to nation-building.
3. Keynote: Building a Nation - Attendees will leave not only inspired, but equipped and challenged to act.
Impact from Past Conferences
- 2018: Raised 20,000 GH₵ (≈4,000 USD) in seed funds for women to start trades or vocational work.
- 2021: Raised 60,000 GH₵ (≈10,000 USD) for small business owners to receive training to manage their finances and expand their operations.
- 2021: Raised GH₵ 24,000 (≈2,100 USD) to fund the construction of a computer lab and reading clinic in northern Ghana.
- Every Year: free vendor exhibition space for Ghanaians to sell locally produced goods such as shea butter, fabrics, soaps and detergents, beads and necklaces, slippers, shoes, and bags.
Each conference plants seeds that continue growing long after the event ends.
