Help us Build The Gachie Community Center!

I grew up a very bored youth. My village did not have electricity, running water, or paved roads. So, I didn’t have the entertainment of television, music (batteries were very expensive), or a community center or library to just go hang out. So, books became my friend that I exchanged with friends and read and read. Then, the whole world opened up to me.

When I was 15, I traveled to the UK and USA. Two years later, I was chosen by my high school to be an exchange student to Oregon, USA. The pathways had opened, and I moved to Portland, Oregon, in my 20s and opened up my culinary business that I have been running for 17 years.

When I returned to my village (now a town) 30 years later, it was still the same, with no entertainment venue for youth. So, 10 years ago, I started collaborating with different organizations to distribute donated books and school supplies to Kenyan schools so they could open their own libraries. And the community center idea of the Gachie Development Center was born.

Phase 1 - Build perimeter wall to secure the center site - completed March 2025

Phase 2 - Install a gate to secure compound - completed April 2025

Phase 3 - Geological Survey to dig a water borehole (water comes only once a week) - completed September 2025

Phase 4 - Fundraise for funds to obtain building permits and begin construction in December 2025

Phase 5 - Construction Buildout - through August 2026

September 2026- Cooling Period - iron out any construction kinks/clean up

Phase 6 - Equipment Installation - October 2026

Phase 7 - Hiring of staff

Phase 8 - Soft opening - November 2026

Phase 9 - Grand opening - December 2026 (you are all invited!)
