I'm taking on the 4 Peaks Challenge in Ireland to support EcoBrix in Masaka, Uganda - helping build sustainable livelihoods while tackling plastic waste!!

Hi, my name is Éadaoin and I’m a Civil, Structural & Environmental Masters student, and I'm excited to share that this June, I'll be traveling to Masaka, Uganda, to volunteer with the EcoBrixs project through UCD Volunteers Overseas (UCDVO). During my four weeks, I will have the opportunity to work closely with local schools, teaching students about sustainability practices and the importance of environmental responsibility. I'll also be working with the EcoBrixs team to turn collected plastic waste into useful products like furniture and building materials, helping both the environment and local communities.

EcoBrixs is a Ugandan-based charity dedicated to tackling plastic waste and unemployment through a closed-loop recycling system; since its inception in 2017, it has recycled over 457 tonnes of plastic waste—equivalent to roughly 19,194,000 500ml plastic bottles—while creating green jobs and creating sustainable development.

To support this community initiative, I am taking on the 4 Peaks Challenge in Ireland. This fundraising effort involves hiking the highest peak in each province—Slieve Donard (850m) in Ulster, Lugnaquilla (925m) in Leinster, Carrauntoohil (1038m) in Munster, and Mweelrea (814m) in Connacht, which will take place over the course of three days - March 20th, 21st, and 22nd. This will equal a total ascent of 3627m and a distance of 50km

The funds raised will go directly to the EcoBrixs initiative to support their mission in Masaka. I will be providing updates on the hike times and progress through my Instagram (@eadaoinmccarron), and anyone is welcome to join me on these hikes!!
