Our family have been travelling to South Africa with the Mellon Foundation, Mellon Educate, for the past twenty years, building homes and schools in the poorest townships across Cape Town.

In that time we have made a combined 21 trips supporting the mission of the foundation.

This year PJ and Geena are hoping to travel with the foundation to the township in Lwande, in Strand, where we will be involved in building two schools for the community—one primary school and one secondary school—complete with classrooms, WC facilities, play areas, kitchens and sheltered outdoor areas.

The trip, called a Mellon Educate “Building Blitz”, will take place from the 15th to the 22nd of November 2025.

In order to make this trip possible, volunteers are required to fundraise. All donations directly contribute to creating a safe learning environment for thousands of children who need it most.

From our experience volunteering with Mellon Educate on past trips, we have seen how important the work of the charity, and the power of education, is to the children living in these impoverished areas of Cape Town.
