As a group of Erasmus Masters programme studying Migration and Intercultural Relations (EMMIR), interning at Nakivale Refugee Settlement in Uganda, where we have personally seen the challenges faced by displaced families. This inspired us to support newly arrived individuals, especially with the approaching rainy season, through the construction of a sustainable permanent structure. However, this is no ordinary construction project. The project will be built by Opportunigee, a refugee-owned organisation in the Nakivale Refugee Settlement.

We aim to build a safe home for at least 1 refugee familiy within the next 2 months, providing them with protection from harsh weather conditions and a secure place to rebuild their lives. Our long-term goal is to continue expanding this initiative to help more families in need.

Also, the student's commitment to going beyond their internship duties with their various (I)NGOs showcases their determination to allocate time, energy, and skills towards effecting enduring positive change in the lives of the family(s) and the wider community. Nevertheless, collaborative efforts are essential for achieving these goals.
