Help Support Matter: A Safe and Celebratory Space for 2SLGBTQIA+ Communities in Manitoba
We are excited to announce the launch of Matter Queer Space Manitoba Inc. (Matter), a not-for-profit, volunteer-run, and donation-supported Two-Spirit, Queer, and Trans Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour (2SQTBIPOC) -mandated art gallery, library, and queer community programming space. Matter centres 2SQTBIPOC art, literature, and 2SLGBTQIA+ people.
Matter is at 433 Graham Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, on the lower level of Revolution Wellness Centre. Our space will be a cornerstone for creativity and connection, featuring a 2SQTBIPOC-mandated art gallery and library, and a programming space that celebrates the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
Our Mission:
To uplift, represent, and celebrate the voices and creativity of 2SQTBIPOC communities through a 2SQTBIPOC-mandated art gallery and library, and diverse programs and activities that foster connection, learning, and wellness for the entire 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
What We Offer:
- Matter Gallery: A dynamic space for art that reflects and honours the diversity of our community, providing a platform for 2SQTBIPOC artists to share their work and stories.
- 2SQTBIPOC Library at Matter Founded by Renu Shonek (they/them) and Carla Taylor (she/they): A curated collection of literature and resources that highlights the voices and experiences of 2SQTBIPOC individuals.
- Matter Programming: Engaging events, workshops, and support groups designed to foster creativity, connection, and collective liberation.

Through donations, community care, and mutual aid, Matter aims to be a cost-accessible space, providing low- to no-cost/barrier-free access to art, literature, and opportunities that truly meet queer individuals where they are, ensuring that as many people as possible can benefit from the resources and programs we offer.
We are reaching out to you, our community, to help bring Matter to life. Your generous donations will support:
- Improving Our Space: Updating our physical location to ensure it is as accessible as possible.
- Building Our Programs: Funding for art exhibitions, workshops, and community events that reflect and support the diverse voices within 2SQTBIPOC communities.
- Supporting Our Mission: Enabling us to operate as a fully independent, volunteer-driven organization dedicated to nurturing connection and creativity.
