My name is Rob Mitchell.
Recently, I had the privilege of being able to take part in the Compo Beach Playground Build/Renovation.
Anyone else who was fortunate enough to come out and volunteer for any amount of time saw something extraordinary happening from our community on that site. The outpouring of generosity that was generated for the needs of the project was incredible! It was so encouraging!
It's long been one of my goals to address the lackluster field conditions that we coaches are up against at too many of our town ballfields every weekend.
I'd like to utilize the momentum and increased public interest that has been generated by the playground project and use it for another exciting and desperately needed community project that we are ready to get started on immediately!
There is a tremendous amount of leftover materials from the playground build. It's not necessarily a mistake, and apparently, this was factored into the cost of the job, but there is a lot. It is not returnable.
Along with Mr. Keenan Spiegel from Westport Woodworks (Keenan was also a crew chief for the playground build) we will use it to build brand new dugout benches and bleachers for as many of the town ballfields as we possibly can!
We need to get this effort underway immediately, especially since that material needs to get off of our beach! There are several exciting potential locations we may utilize for storage/production that are being explored, but time is of the essence, which is why I'm asking for any possible donation that you may be able to afford at this time.
Additionally, when I took a ride over to the Hillspoint fields earlier today, I wanted to take some pictures of the dugout benches that I could attach to this letter.
The pictures of what it looks like over there these days are self-explanatory. I should note that access to these fields has historically been extremely problematic to even play baseball during the week, let alone do any maintenance or construction.
However, with your help, in addition to the benches, I'd also like to immediately get to work on addressing these repairs as well.
And after that, I'd like to move on to something else, and so on and so forth.
The idea is to grow and have enough "leftover" from every project going forward that we never have to stop.
The Compo Beach Playground project has empowered many of us to finally take matters into our own hands! I love it! I hope this is just the beginning!
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for your consideration.
Let's go!
