Build Boarding School for Blind Children
Donation protected
AIUM is an organization established to create equal access to religious education for blind Muslim children. At AIUM, with your support, we will be able to house, feed, and educate 15 children as young as seven years old for an entire year. Through this one-year program, students will leave equipped with the skills to go on into the world and navigate their educational and religious pursuits with confidence and clarity.
Skills include but are not limited to:
- Learning to read braille in Amharic, English, and Arabic
- Training in the operations and usage of blind-compatible technology
- Introduction to the white cane to help them build independent navigational skills
- Meet and interact with other young blind students, building camaraderie and community
Due to the current state of the purchased property, extensive renovations are necessary to ensure safe and accessible living and learning quarters for the programs' children. The cost of renovations translates to $87,000 USD, including $13,500 USD contingency funds to account for the volatile cost of building materials. Additional funding will be critical to not only launch but ensure a second year of successful programming. As calculated, $39,5000 USD has been allotted to two years worth of education programming, teacher salaries, and general living expenses for program attendees. This collective amount, $140,000 USD encompasses several elements that are a clear part of making this a successful project.
We hope we have touched you today with our story and encourage you to donate to AIUM and help become a pioneer in the establishment of a purposeful and necessary part of the global accessibility journey.
