Want to join us in making a difference for native bees in OKC? We're raising money to build an "Air Bee 'n Bee" at Central Park Community Garden. Sadly, native bee populations are declining rapidly and they need our help! Any donation will help make an impact. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause!
ABOUT THE PROJECT: Utilizing wood from limbs that were removed from our garden due to previous ice storms, this 25' long “Air Bee n Bee” will provide habitat for Oklahoma’s native nesting bees. These are solitary bees, they don’t have a queen, make hives or honey. They usually nest in the ground or in downed wood. Females enter the tiny wood holes and lay eggs in little sacs. The baby bees hatch just when the flowers they need for nectar are blooming! We plant bee-friendly flowers at our community garden, both to attract them and to provide nectar for the baby bees when they hatch.
This hotel is named in their honor, despite the possibility of housing other insects. The wood provides a perfect spot for eggs to hatch and close enough to the lush garden for them all to find their way home again.
