BUILD A WALL TO SECURE COMMUNITY PROJECT
We are raising funds to build a wall around a community project space in Harare, Zimbabwe. The Charity I volunteer for, Hope Fountain International (www.hopefountain.org) is due to receive a grant from a corporate donor to start a Fish Farming Project on the land in July 2023. There is also a huge interest from the corporate donor to continue funding the Fish farming Project. However, the project area needs to be walled and gated for security.
The proceeds from the Fish Farming Project will go towards the payment of school fees for the orphaned children supported by Hope Fountain International charity. Not only will this project help to improve the children’s lives through education, it will also help to supplement their food intake as well as that for the community at large.
The project plan is to restock the fish pond with continuing batches of fingerlings for further harvesting when fully grown into fish. This will result in an increased, more reliable, sustainable source of income for the Charity.
Sustainability
Health & wellbeing + livelihoods:
Increased income will ensure payment of the children’s school fees and boosting of their confidence. This will result in improved health and well-being of the children. The children and wider community will also benefit by having access to a nutritional local food source.
Education:
Increased funds generated from fish sales will mean that more school fees are paid and lessen the risk of children having to drop out of school. Involving the children in the project running by teaching them to look after the fish will help them to learn important life skills.
Climate change:
- The fish farming project is environment friendly and it does not involve the use of fossil fuels.
- Water rich in nutrients from the regular replacing of pond water will provide an organic fertilizer source. This can be used for growing vegetables which is another possible food source.
