Build a trauma informed center in Rwanda.

The Rwandan Genocide against Tutsi in 1994 resulted in nearly one million deaths, and the survivors' and their families' ongoing psychological suffering. "Family mental health, sociopolitical trauma, and cultural narratives can pass on the trauma of a genocide to succeeding generations, affecting mental health and well-being."

ONE HELP ONE DIRECTION IHUMURE was formed with the vision of creating a free peaceful space for children in distress. Traumatized children in Rwanda often wind up on the street due to family conflicts and poverty. Originally, the organization focused on providing for the physical needs of youth living on the street, and we've succeeded in helping 30 families and 70 children. Once we had reached our first goal, we realized that mental health support is fundamental to addressing the needs of traumatized youth, so the organization now provides trauma-informed programs for both children and their families.

However, much of our current budget goes to paying rent for our facilities instead of directly funding projects. We are raising $30,000 to establish a new center so that future funds can go directly to supporting programs. In addition to supporting previously successful programs, your donation will also create the space for new initiatives like the Smile Sunday Program, Future Leaders Program, Ihumure Children Choir, and the Ihumure Gift Shop to actualize and create positive change.
