Hi, my name is Laura McGuire and I'm a 16-year-old TY student at Loreto Secondary School in Wexford. I’ve been given an incredible opportunity to travel to Cape Town, South Africa in March 2026 as a volunteer with the Niall Mellon Trust (Mellon Educate).

Myself and a group of students from Loreto will be taking part in a life-changing project to help improve education in disadvantaged communities. While we're there, we’ll be:

●Helping with light construction and renovation of schools

●Supporting early literacy through one-on-one tutoring

️●Assisting in a school feeding programme

●Engaging directly with local students and teachers

This is so much more than a school trip, it’s a chance to give back, grow personally, and build meaningful connections across cultures. I'm excited (and a little nervous!) about this journey, and I know it will be an unforgettable experience that will shape my future.

But I need your help to get there.

Each student must raise €3,500 to cover the cost of the trip, including travel, accommodation, and project materials. I’ve set up this GoFundMe to help make it possible.
