Buggy to keep Cairns Hospital Staff Safe!

Over 3,000 members of our Cairns community work at Cairns Hospital.

They are our partners, sons and daughters, mums and dads and family. They are our kids sports coaches, our community volunteers or our friendly neighbours up the road. They are our friends.

A recent survey by the Nurses Union, responded that over 50% of their nursing staff feel unsafe returning to their cars after a shift. One quarter of them have been harassed, threatened or assaulted. We can assume this trend extends to all staff.

THIS IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH!

These are the people who look after us, so its time we help look after them.

We can't solve the crime problem today, we can't get the powers that be to supply a solution today!

BUT WE CAN DO THIS.....

before its too late!

Hand wringing, complaining or expressing outrage about it on Facebook, isn't going to provide any meaningful inroads.

But your help today, will make you feel good knowing you were part of the solution.

Our Hub Cairns propose to gift the Cairns Hospital a new buggy.

Currently, there is a small shuttle service in place that can help with some safety issues.

It's not enough.

This buggy will provide a back up for individuals who the service isn't suitable for.

It allows security to accompany "at risk" staff to their transport quickly and efficiently, eliminating long walks and less time away from where they are needed.

With the community providing this buggy, it will hopefully address the safety concerns of staff in the short term.

In the meantime we will continue our work, making Cairns safer with practical, no nonsense solutions and community involvement.

This is our first of many iniatives to help our community.

We will lead by example.

We will become the community we want....safe, positive, respectful. We will help each other, lift each other up and be proud.
