Alex “Bert” James Richards, 20, of Lubbock, TX passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, in Carlsbad, NM. Alex was born on March 9, 2003, in Carlsbad, NM to Jesse Richards.

A visitation is scheduled from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Friday, August 4, 2023, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of life service is scheduled for 1:00 PM Friday, August 4, 2023, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home with Pastor Howell Scoot officiating. Cremation will follow services.

Growing up, Alex was a high-spirited kid, who loved dirt bike riding and playing football. Alex lived the first 7 years in Carlsbad before moving to Grand Saline, TX for 3 years, Lubbock, TX for 7 years, and then to Cloudcroft, NM where he graduated high school. During his senior year, he received All State MVP in football. After school, Alex moved back to Lubbock where he pursued a career in oil and gas working for McVay Drilling Company. He worked his way up to derrick hand, becoming a second generation “rough neck” and following the footsteps of his father. He enjoyed working on the oil rig, and anything that had to do with action. He was known by everyone who knew him as a hard worker, and he gained the respect of all those he worked with.

Alex was the first born out of his siblings, and he took the role of being the big brother to heart. Family was everything to him, and we would do anything and everything for them. He was a partner in crime and best friend to his brother Andy, and he was always a protecter of his sister Kamee. He was someone that his peers always looked up to and could rely on. He was a big brother to all. Alex had an unhealthy competitive streak and was always fearless. He always lived life to the fullest, smiling the whole time. He will be dearly missed and never forgotten.
