Food Pantry Project at Shagbark Farm

Hey y’all!

You might already know, but I grow produce in my free time for local food pantries.

 

As i am in the process of building and growing the farm, naturally, expenses are building up. I have covered quite a many expenses for establishing this project already, and am simply seeking a little help completing everything.

 

In my previous donation farm project, I was able to donate 800lbs in one season to the food pantries of Stone Ridge and Ellenville, NY, dropped off by me weekly.

 

As a major improvement, this year I have already established connection with Ulster Corps and the Rochester Food Pantry to make weekly pickup from the farm, making it possible for me to focus on the growing. Each pantry will be picking up 3-4 farm crates full of produce weekly, as I aim to donate 2,000lbs this year. The new farm being more than twice the size of the previous farm, Im confident that will happen. Additionally, the 40’x100’ berry patch, over 20 fruit trees I’ve planted since we moved in, and the over 60 culinary mushroom logs being innoculated this spring, will all help add bounty and diversity to my donations.

In my view, food pantries of the past are in the rear view. For years, the disenfranchised members of our social community had nothing but boxed food and sad vegetables to choose from when they sought support for the basic need of food. I am proud to be part of a change happening in our area and the country(i hope). Nowadays fresh and diverse produce and food options are far more available for people coming to a pantry for support. All people deserve the options and bounty available on this planet, circumstances aside.
