About Brooks Haven Seniors’ Recreation:

Brooks Haven Seniors’ Recreation is a volunteer based community organization serving the residents of the communities of Dutch Brook, Prime Brook, Front Lake and Caribou Marsh and surrounding areas. This community hall was built in 1985. It is now the last community structure of our communities. Three local community schools have long since closed as has our local post office, two garages and several community stores. Clearly, this community hall is

important to us.

Our hall hosts events for folks of all ages, from children’s parties, to functions for seniors. It hosts a weekly dart league, craft fairs, as well as hall rentals for weddings, anniversaries and birthday parties, etc. As have many other volunteer organizations, we too have faced considerable challenges due to Covid 19 and subsequent lock downs, yet our ongoing monthly costs continued on.

We now find ourselves in the situation that our hall needs urgent maintenance, in particular the roof. Pre-Covid 19, we had a plan in place whereby we would replace the roof in three stages, Phase I, II and II based on the urgency of repairs needed for each section. When Covid struck, all our fundraising came to an abrupt halt. In September, Post Hurricane Fiona hit and has urgently hastened our need to replace the roof. It is no longer an option to replace the roof in stages, we simply need to replace the entire roof at once (Estimates for a new roof alone ranged from $23,000 to $25,000.) Furthermore, we also need to make our hall more accessible (entrances to the hall as well as the washrooms) and other necessary repairs and maintenance.

Our dedicated group of volunteers have been working very hard on behalf of the organization, but we simply cannot raise the funds quickly enough to meet our urgent needs at this time.
