Brooklyns Heart Journey

Hi, we are the family of Brooklyn & Bec and we are attempting to raise funds to support Brooklyns heart journey.

Brooklyn also known to most as B was born with a congenital heart condition called hypoplastic right heart syndrome that has required her to undergo a number of open heart surgeries and other related surgeries - her first open heart surgery being at only 12 days old and before she was even 9 months old she had undergone 6 open heart surgeries and 9 surgeries in total. Brooklyn was also born with her lung not formed properly so this is also putting additional pressure on her heart/body and is not functioning properly to support her. Brooklyn is now 4 years old and she is the most infectious happiest little girl.. anyone that spends time with her knows her energy is so special and rare to be around - she is like literal sunshine and she brings so much light and joy into all of our lives making anyone that comes into her presence instantly feel uplifted.

Bec is Brooklyns mum and she is truly incredible, she has the biggest heart and is so giving and loving to everyone in her life. Anyone that is close to Bec knows her story and the adversity she has faced over the past 5 years, what she has endured no person should ever have to go to through. Despite all of that she hasn't allowed it to break her spirit, she has always kept going for Brooklyn. Bec has devoted her life to being by Brooklyns side - since the day Brooklyn was born Bec has been there through every surgery, every appointment, every hospital admission, every difficult conversation with Brooklyns doctors, all of it. Bec has not wavered in her relentless strength for Brooklyn and she is B’s absolute rock. Outside of all of that Bec is always doing everything in her power to give Brooklyn a beautiful life.. she wants her to experience it all in this lifetime and in her 4 short years already she has given her the gift of experiencing so many special memories. Brooklyn would not be where she is today if it wasn’t for the love and resilience of her mum. Bec is someone that never likes to ask for help or burden anyone else and she has done such an incredible job in always budgeting to ensure all of Brooklyns needs are met including all of her medical expenses and specialist appointments, she has no idea we are setting up this page otherwise I know she wouldn't want to burden others in asking for help.

I wanted to make mention of Becs beautiful and supportive partner in Blake and stepson Baxter that have been Bec & Brooklyns support system since coming into their life and we are so incredibly grateful for them both.

Brooklyns initial surgeries as a baby have allowed her to live her life as normal as possible and given her body the opportunity to grow and gain strength, however as her body has grown it is now putting more pressure on her heart and lungs to do what they need to do and she has started to become symptomatic meaning her body isn’t coping. This means surgical intervention is required for Brooklyns best chance at a future and for her body to be able to continue to grow. In the coming months Brooklyn will undergo what will be her 7th open heart surgery since she was born. Bec & Brooklyn will be relocating from Newcastle to Westmead Children’s Hospital in Sydney where they will spend upto 3 months whilst Brooklyn has surgery and recovers. Bec will not be able to work during this time but will still need to pay rent/bills whilst away to maintain a home for her and Brooklyn for when they return. As you can imagine over the past 5 years Bec has had to take a significant amount of leave from work to be there with Brooklyn during surgeries, appointments, hospital admissions or when B has been sick - though she has an incredibly supportive workplace and they have most definitely accommodated and supported Bec over the years and continue to do so today unfortunately any paid leave she does have remaining will be quickly exhausted in the early weeks of Brooklyns hospital admission. Also recently due to the rising rental pressure Bec has had to downsize as her rent was increased so she also has the added financial stress of costs associated with moving ahead of Brooklyns surgery.

We would love to be able to provide some relief for them during this time and assist in the financial burden so Bec can focus on being present with Brooklyn during this time. Any donations are so incredibly appreciated - no donation is too small. I know how loved both Bec & Brooklyn are and how many beautiful people they have in their life, I also know there are so many people that want to be able to help support them during this time.

There are a lot of complexities and uncertainty surrounding Brooklyns upcoming surgery with it being a major surgery, if you are unable to donate please have Brooklyn and Bec in your thoughts and prayers and share this with your network.
