Hi!
Brookline For the Culture is a black woman-led group seeking to dismantle systems of oppression and promote culturally significant events and gatherings in Brookline Massachusetts. We emphasize transparency in everything we do, setting bold goals and pursuing a clear strategy that seeks to move the needle on culture here in Brookline.
We are currently fundraising for the town of Brookline's annual Juneteenth Celebration started by Adena Walker and Zahriyannah Karakashian-Jones in 2020 with the theme this year focusing on a Block Party. Juneteenth is an important day of celebration, commemoration, remembrance, and reflection on the struggles of those of African descent in the United States. Juneteenth marks the day that news of the emancipation of enslaved people in Texas reached them in 1865. Juneteenth is a powerful reminder of the resilience and strength of the African American community in the face of adversity and oppression.
The funds will be used to organize vendors and activities that honor the history and legacy of Juneteenth. This includes things like educational booths, health screenings from the Brookline Health Department, Hair braiding, music, free food, and much more. We will also use the funds to provide resources and support to local organizations that are working to empower black and brown community members in the town of Brookline and build a more equitable and just society.
Juneteenth is a significant part of our nation’s history, and we believe it is important to recognize and celebrate it in a meaningful way. We hope that you will join us in making a contribution to this cause. Thank you for your support.
