Carie Broecker, Peace of Mind Dog Rescue

After caring for the dog of a terminally ill woman, Carie Broecker discovered that many senior citizens struggle to care for their dogs as they age. So, in 2009, she began Peace of Mind Dog Rescue, which helps senior pet owners and rescues senior dogs from shelters. Since its founding, the nonprofit has provided volunteer services to 2,000 senior citizens -- helping them worry less and stay together with their pets -- as well as rescued nearly 3,000 senior dogs.
