Hello, my name is Lorna. I’m a British woman who has been living in Sri Lanka for the past 12 years. I have two beautiful children, and together we’ve survived a decade of emotional, physical, financial, and psychological abuse.
For over 7 years, we’ve been trapped here. We have been so isolated from our loved ones back home in the UK, with no way out. My children have endured things no child ever should. Their father, who was meant to protect them, instead used every form of control to keep us stuck here by refusing financial support, restricting our freedom, and inflicting deep harm that we are only now beginning to process.
After years of silence and fear, we are finally safe. With the help of a local legal organisation, we now have hope. We hope that we can return to the UK, reunite with my family, and begin to heal.
But getting home isn’t easy. The financial abuse has left us with nothing and my father, who is living off his pension in the UK, has done everything he can to support us from afar, but for our next step, it’s not enough.
So I’m here, humbly and wholeheartedly asking for your help.
We are trying to raise enough to cover the cost of flights back to the UK and to find a small place where my children and I can start fresh. Every single donation, no matter the size, means the world to us. It brings us one step closer to safety and a second chance.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for taking the time to read our story. Thank you for your kindness, your compassion, and for helping us believe that a better life is possible.
With all my heart, thank you!
Lorna
