Hi, I'm Bí,

I'm a trans-masc person and I am fundraising so my trans wife Rowan can flee the danger of modern-day America to join me and my daughter in safety.

Earlier this year I married the love of my life. It was a beautiful day, full of joy and love and sunshine.

Like many couples, our vows included "to have and to hold", but for us that line went deeper than most, because being able to hold each other was a temporary luxury we would soon miss...

Less than two weeks after we were married, we said tearful goodbyes in a crowded Airport terminal. Neither of us were sure when we'd see each other again.

You see I live in Ireland, and Rowan lives in America, I had travelled nearly 6000 km (or 3700 miles) for our wedding, but now I had to return home. It was one of the hardest thing's I've ever had to do.

As this year has progressed, the US has become a more and more hostile place, filled with corruption, extremism, hate crimes, and denial of civil rights. Living there has become increasingly unsafe and frightening for many of the communities targeted, including my wife.

We are a queer couple, and Rowan lives in a very conservative state. She has been confronted on countless occasions by members of the public seeking to insult, provoke or intimidate her.

Her original plan was to move to a safer city for 6 months to 1 year so we could budget and save up, but until recently we thought we would have more time to plan before things got desperate. Unfortunately this is not the case. As things turn from bad to worse in the USA, there's no denying we are in desperate times, we cannot now risk delaying longer than absolutely necessary.

When I married Rowan earlier this year, I made promises; realistic ones, nothing absurd; breakfast in bed, day trips to the beach, that sort of stuff, but now it's all I can hope that we can be reunited soon, that everyone remains safe, and that I get to keep my promise of having and holding her for the rest of my life.

What am I fundraising for?

Anything basically. All funds raised will be put towards the cost of relocating from America to Ireland, from flights to visa fees, moving/shipping/admin costs, legal immigration advice, transfer of medical care and to help me financially support my family on one income until she is granted permission to work by the Irish State.

Much as it pains us to ask for help, the fear and uncertainty caused by the US political climate has become too much to ignore.

Desperate times call for desperate measures, and every single donation is a step closer to bringing Rowan home.

In the event that we raise funds above those needed, any extra contributions will be re-donated to similar causes, to help other trans people looking to escape to safety.
