Thanks to the generous support of this community, our beloved teacher, Miss Zainab, and her husband, Karamba Diaite, were able to secure legal counsel to fight the order deporting Karamba to a third-party country, Uganda. Karamba, a Senegalese immigrant with an open asylum case, was detained by DHS in November 2025 after mistakenly taking the wrong exit at the traffic circle by the Peace Bridge in Buffalo, New York.
Now, after 5 long and painful months apart, Karamba has been granted a $30,000 bond that will allow him to be released from DHS's facility and return home to his wife and young son while his asylum case proceeds.
Funds are needed to urgently pay the bond and release Karamba from the Batavia detention center he is being held at. If DHS moves him before the bond is paid, the bond order may not be transferrable.
What happens with the funds raised:
- Funds will be used to post Karamba's bond and bring him home.
- Upon the conclusion of his case, the returned bond funds will be provided to Karamba and his family.
Why It Matters:
Miss Zainab has always given love, care, and compassion to our families, our children, and our community. It is now our turn to support her and help bring her husband home to his wife and son.
The organizer of this fundraiser is Erin Connare Schafer and other parents of the JCC. 100% of the funds raised will be used to help them.
Your gift, no matter the size, sends a powerful message: that justice, compassion, and solidarity come first. Thank you for your generosity and for standing with Miss Zainab’s family in their time of need.
