Help the City of Sunbury Police Department Add Two K9 Heroes to Our Force

The men and women of the City of Sunbury Police Department proudly serve and protect the residents of Sunbury every day. To continue strengthening public safety in our community, we are launching a campaign to raise $50,000 to bring two highly trained Police K9s to Sunbury.

These dogs will not just be partners — they will be lifesaving assets to our officers and our city.

Why We Need Two K9s

We are seeking to add:

K9 #1: Narcotics Detection & Tracking

This K9 will be trained to:

Detect illegal narcotics

Track fleeing suspects

Locate missing persons, including children and vulnerable adults

Assist in building and area searches

‍ K9 #2: Explosives Detection

This K9 will be trained to:

Detect explosive materials

Assist during bomb threat and firearm investigations

Protect public events and school functions

Provide safety sweeps for community gatherings

These specialized K9s will dramatically enhance officer safety, improve response times, and provide an added layer of protection for our residents.

The Cost: $50,000

The purchase, certification, and training of two fully trained police K9s is a significant investment. Costs include:

Selection and purchase of both dogs

Extensive specialized training (narcotics/tracking and explosives detection)

Handler certification and training

Patrol vehicle kennel inserts

Protective ballistic vests

Ongoing veterinary care and equipment

We will be working with nationally respected K9 training organizations such as Shallow Creek Kennels and JIREH K9, known for providing elite police service dogs across the country.

While some funding may be allocated through budgeted resources, the majority of this investment must come from community support — which is why we are asking for your help.

Why This Matters to Sunbury

Adding two K9s means:

Safer schools and public events

Stronger drug enforcement efforts

Faster location of missing persons

Greater officer protection in dangerous situations

Enhanced emergency response capabilities

These dogs will serve the residents of Sunbury for years to come and will become a visible symbol of safety and partnership within our community.
