Bringing Billy Home
Donation protected
Our father Bill suffered a massive stroke this past October. He endured roughly 72 hours of outdoor elements, rain and freezing temperatures before he was found. "It was the coldest rain I've ever felt" he said. Based on some marks on his arm it's an assumption that his loyal dog Marcie may have tried getting him up and even lay by his side keeping him warm. It’s nothing short of a miracle that he’s still with us but our lives and his quality of living will never be the same.
He was flown to Albany Medical where he spent a very long week on a ventilator in the ICU. The doctors refused to believe he was outside in the elements for that long but later said that the freezing temps may have helped keep his brain from swelling to a point beyond recovery. Shortly after he was released from the ICU he was transferred to an acute care facility where he is being cared for and receiving physical therapy
His stroke left him with paralysis of his left side, he is unable to walk or care for himself. He has some forward momentum with physical therapy but the road to recovery is a long one.. At this point we’re unsure of his lifestyle and the level of care he’ll need in the future, along with his medical expenses.
Our hope and overall goal is to get him back home to his farm in Sandgate living comfortably. However, his home is in need of some renovations and repairs to accommodate his needs if there's any hope of this happening.
He's worked hard his whole life for what he has and now he's facing the very real possibility of never being able to enjoy it again or possibly having it all stripped away. We’re hoping that with a little help from folks in the community we can make his house suitable and bring him back to Sandgate.
It’s very humbling to ask for financial support. We don't have a specific goal to reach as we are treading in uncharted waters and are unsure what we're up against financially.
Anything and everything helps. If you don’t have the means to donate we would appreciate you sharing this.
Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts,
