Celebrate 100 yr WWII Vet and Renovate His Yard

Hello, our names are Nick, Liz, Gabe and Francis. We're a group of friends stationed here at Travis AFB. We'd like to tell you about a phenomenal WWII Veteran we were introduced to this year and how we can all give back to a man who has given so much to others.

His name is Oakley Dexter. Born in San Francisco in 1923, he joined the Army Air Corps in 1942, where he served as an Aerial Photographer and later as a Radio/Radar Technician. During his time in the service, he was selected to be a Radio Systems Instructor, paving the way for future Army Air Corps - Radio Technicians.

After the war was over, Oakley, left the service and opened a radio repair store in Larkspur, California. He also found his passion for firefighting, where he dedicated 60 years of his life to the Larkspur Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter. On top of everything, Oakley took command and revitalized the American Legion Post 313. He established the Larkspur Chamber of Commerce and became its first president. Additionally, he was President of the Larkspur Lions Club and served as the Sunday School Superintendent of the Redwood Presbyterian Church.

As anyone reading this can see, Oakley's given so much time and effort to others in his nearly 100 years on this earth. Just as he's done so much for his country and community, we are asking his fellow patriots, veterans and community to do something for him.

The goal of this fundraiser is to share Oakley's story and bring the community together to recognize his efforts and restore his home. If 3000 people give $1 then we'll have $3000 to help Oakley. Please consider sharing this with as many people as you can.

First, we'd like to celebrate Oakley's birthday and have the community honor him. He'll turn 100 on June 11, 2023. The funds you give will support the renting of a venue, necessary equipment, as well as the purchase of food/refreshments. It's going to take the community coming together to make this party truly special. If everyone brings a little something this party will be a success. Many hands make light work. If someone brings cake, another brings tables, another brings chairs, and another opens up their venue, then we have a party!

Finally, we'd like to take care of Oakley's yard. After his wife's passing, the property became extremely overgrown. She was the green thumb of the family and kept their property beautiful. It was truly a relaxing place for them to spend time together. The City of Dixon reached out to Oakley requiring him to take care of his overgrown yard, a task not easily accomplished; however, upon learning of such, members of the Disabled Veterans of America, Boy Scouts, and the community came together on May 20th, 2023 to tackle this together. Much progress was made, but the work is far from complete. A large portion of these donations will go to securing the resources such as a dumpster bin, necessary to finish the job. Based on our previous clean-up efforts we've estimated three more dumpsters, which cost $850 each, will be required to collect all of the debris. Additionally, we'll need several volunteers to perform a variety of yard work-type tasks and trash removal.

If you're interested in helping us or want more information please do not hesitate to reach us at [email redacted]. Let's come together as a community and help a veteran who so deserves our help.

All funds raised and collected will go directly towards Oakley Dexter's 100th Birthday and the necessary expenses for the upkeeping of his home.
