This Saturday, December 13, something extraordinary is happening at the historic Brearley House:

George Washington’s Revolutionary War tent — America’s first “Oval Office” — is coming to Lawrence Township.

This full-scale recreation of Washington’s wartime headquarters is traveling from the Museum of the American Revolution, and our all-volunteer team is preparing for an unforgettable weekend of history, education, and community pride.

We’d love for you to be part of it. The tent arrives at the end of this week. The event will happen no matter what—but your support allows you to step into the experience in a meaningful, lasting way.

Your contribution directly supports
  • Living-history interpreters & hands-on activities
  • Free admission for the community
  • High-quality history-forward, educational programming for local students and adults

And most importantly, this project provides approximately 500 Lawrence Township Public School students with a powerful, hands-on learning experience—at no cost to the students or the district—as part of the upcoming 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding.

Why This Event Matters
Stepping inside Washington’s war tent is stepping into the moment a nation was being imagined—by soldiers, civilians, aides, and camp followers whose stories helped shape democracy itself. For one weekend, Lawrence Township becomes part of that story.
For our children, it’s a living classroom they will carry with them for years to come.

Event Highlights — December 13
  • Step inside Washington’s Revolutionary War headquarters tent
  • Explore the 1761 Historic Brearley House
  • Meet 18th-century interpreters who bring history to life
  • Engage with student volunteers & Junior Historians
  • Celebrate Lawrence’s role in America’s founding
