These funds will support Rami and his wife Dr. Wafaa Alrashid.
Rami Othmane, a Tunisian immigrant who was taken by ICE on Sunday, July 13, while driving to the grocery store. According to his wife, Dr. Wafaa Alrashid, Chief of Medical Staff at Huntington Hospital, in charge of over 1,000 doctors. Agents blocked his car, did not show a warrant and did not identify themselves. Dr. Rashid says her husband, who is in the country legally with a pending petition for a green card (his wife filed an I-130 Petition for Alien Relative on June 12), is enduring inhumane conditions and his health is deteriorating. He suffers from chronic pain and an untreated tumor, and is sleeping on a cold floor with no bedding, hygiene supplies or privacy.
“This is not just an immigration issue—this is a human rights crisis happening in downtown Los Angeles,” said Rami’s wife. “My husband has been subjected to 12 days of inhumane treatment in a federal building. He is not a criminal. He is a kind, peaceful man with an open immigration petition. He should be with his family, not sleeping on a concrete floor without medical care.”
