A note from Oscar and Marisol’s daughter Vanessa:
My name is Vanessa; I am Oscar and Marisol’s eldest daughter. My parents were detained by ICE on Saturday morning during a routine traffic stop in which both were passengers. To say my world and that of my siblings was changed is an understatement. We spent hours frantically trying to locate and contact them. Both my parents had active cases within the immigration system, with my mom only recently having received her work permit and driver’s license. They both have lived in this country for 30 years, rooting themselves into this community and starting a business to further serve it.
My siblings and I started this fundraiser after several offers of help from the community. The funds raised would cover attorney costs and posting a bond for their release. This process is costly, and with their loss of income and our sudden uprooting, we have to figure out how to get the necessary funds. Our hope is to soon have our parents freed and return to some sense of the life that they spent so many years building.
We are thankful for any amount that you are able to contribute towards getting my parents back with us. We would also be grateful if you share this fundraiser with your family and friends. This situation has been occurring repeatedly since the beginning of the year. The more awareness we have towards these situations, the more united we can feel as a community.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for everyone’s love, prayers, check-ins, and generosity during this time. It is so beautiful to see the kind of community my parents surrounded themselves with in action. ¡Ánimo mi gente!
